Synopsis: Native islander Matt King (George Clooney) lives with his family in Hawaii. Their world shatters when a tragic accident leaves his wife in a coma. Not only must Matt struggle with the stipulation in his wife's will that she be allowed to die with dignity, but he also faces pressure from relatives to sell their family's enormous land trust. Angry and terrified at the same time, Matt tries to be a good father to his young daughters, as they too try to cope with their mother's possible death.

    Excellent movie. Great script, wonderful acting, a believable story and the beauty of the Hawaiian scenery. During the voice over in the opening scenes the main character infers that Hawaii is not the paradise that most Mainlanders think it is. As the Matt King character is shown to be a man completely out of touch with what is going on around him it is easy to see how he could not be aware of the paradise that Hawaii truly is. This is one of the ten best of this year.

    A perfect movie. All actors were spot on. It's a story about regular people reacting to events in a very real way. It never became maudlin. Just an excellent mix of comedy and melodrama.

    Excellent film. Morally very serious and deep. George Clooney has become a terrific actor. Like Harrison Ford he has a remarkable ability to convey internal conflict with facial expressions alone.
